Katharina Anger, PhD

Katharina Anger, PhD, is an internationally recognized presenter who provides training and supervision in the MRI model of brief strategic therapy. She served as a Research Associate and was on the training faculty of the Brief Therapy Center at the MRI until its recent closure.  

Dr. Anger is the founder and director of the Center for Systemic Action, an organization dedicated to training and exploring the expanding possibilities of the MRI Brief Therapy model.  She is also on the training faculty of CAIPSI in Mexico City, the Instituto Erickson de Madrid, and LACT in Paris.  In addition, she trains regularly at CEFAP in Puebla Mexico, CIRCÉ and École du Paradoxes in Paris, and Centro di Terapia Strategica in Arezzo, Italy, as well as at various agencies around the United States. 

Dr. Anger is in clinical practice in New York City where she works with a culturally diverse clientele with a wide range of presenting problems, including work with couples and families.  In addition, she is Senior Supervisor at YAI, an organization that helps individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the life cycle. At YAI she developed and runs several projects including the Brief Therapy Project that uses Brief Strategic Therapy with “chronic problems.” Dr. Anger received her doctorate from Yeshiva University and completed her clinical internship at Cornell Medical College.  She received her training in Brief Therapy from John Weakland, Richard Fisch and Paul Watzlawick (the originators of the model) at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA. 

Dr. Anger has written and trained on a variety of subjects including Brief Therapy with chronic problems, eating disorders, involuntary and reluctant clients, and couples therapy, as well as the model's application in business contexts.
